Default Hurricane Gustav

Today it slammed into Cuba and central/southern florida. Whats next? Another episode of Hurricame Katrina?

When it powers into a Category 5, hopefully it'll weaken to a 2 or a 1 before it hits the coastal cities. Heres a video

It's projected to reach Cat 4, which will decline to Cat 3 by landfall. The shame of it is that there are still a great number of people displaced still from Katrina. Hopefully it will move through the Gulf quickly and that will help to reduce its chances to strengthen.

Last I heard, Louisana is going to start evacuations tomorrow. If people are wise, they'd be getting out asap. Especially if they are living in a city that is below sea level.

All i can say is Hurricane Katrina relief----> toilet (quite literally). All that hard work was for nothing and the dam is probably going to break again... I just hope that the people of New Orleans can just go move to another place. The place is just a Hurricane attractor and the US government is better off just paying people for their homes (or building their homes in a different location).

If those people in New Orleans don't go again (like last time) im going to say its not the government's fault if you lose everything and possibly die... Maybe for the first case, but definitely for this case since Katrina was only class three (i believe) and this one has the potential to get worse.

I Live near Houston and I remember what it was like having all the refugees in Houston. The crime rate went up and there are still people sitting on their porches doing nothing but drinking beer. I also hope the roads don't get clogged up like last time.

At the moment, Gustav is a very strong Cat 3 storm and may brush into Cat 4 strength for a short time. It's 350 miles off of the coast and is predicted to make landfall somewhere along the Gulf coast by midday Monday.

The levies have been repaired and strengthened as much as possible to this point by the Corps or Engineers. However, they are not projected to be anywhere as strong as the rebuild project would have made them (a project that had a 2010 completion window) and a mass evacuation was ordered. Things don't look good for the fishbowl state.

What i meant, but without being that sophisticated. New orleans will most likely flood again because of the short time window between Katrina and Gustav. There were people who stayed back apparently who will be the ones complaining to the government that "YOU DIDN'T DO ENOUGH OMG!!!!!". New Orleans should just stay flooded tbh, it takes us too much money to keep rebuilding it and its just not fair to them to have to keep starting over. They should move out and relocate to somewhere nicer and get paid for their losses (though theres sure to be some fraud). Its a sad situation, but we can't control weather.
